How the Spirit of Life Charitable Foundation Awards Are Made
Overview
The Foundation's Advisory Board solicits and reviews applications from institutions of higher learning. The Advisory Board then instructs the Trustee to make annual awards to the selected institutions. These scholarships are known as the Spirit of Life Charitable Foundation Scholarships. The awards will continue to be made to the selected institutions on an annual basis as long as the institutions continue to comply with the awarding policies of the Foundation. Each institution is responsible for selecting the student to receive the scholarship funds provided to their institution, for distribution of the scholarship funds and for ensuring that the student's final report is completed and sent to the Trustee.
The Award Process
Participating institutions may receive up to $3,000 as an annual award. At present up to three awards of $3,000 each may be granted each year. The trust department of the Fairfield National Bank deals with institutions and not with students during the award process. Each participating college receives applications from the students and decides how to distribute funds. Since the foundation has more than three participating institutions, it is possible a college could apply for funds and not receive them. However, many years we do not receive requests from three institutions. Each institution decides how many students receive a portion of $3,000. It is possible one student could receive $3,000, three students receive $1,000, or whatever variation of distribution the institution decides. Each student who receives support is required to provide a report, as described below. The Trust department of the Fairfield National Bank receives and reviews student reports prior to its annual report to Frontier Community College Foundation Advisory Committee.
Supported Institutions
The Foundation provides support on a continuing basis to several institutions of higher learning with an emphasis on institutions providing education in the health care and biomedical sciences. All the institutions we have supported are detailed in the student reports under Past Awardees.
